Toro Announces Sponsorship of GCSAA Ambassador Leadership Award
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (February 7, 2018) – Toro has been named the presenting sponsor of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) Grassroots Ambassador Leadership Award (GAL), which is created to recognize actively engaged ambassadors currently enrolled in the GCSAA Grassroots Ambassador program.
The goal of the Grassroots Ambassador program is to match a GCSAA member with a member of the United States Congress, and build strong relationships to advocate on a grassroots level for the golf industry. Ambassadors commit to a two-year appointment with the option to continue for two additional years. The link between the ambassador and the member of Congress is based on golf facility location.
“Toro is honored to support this important GCSAA initiative that helps to promote and inform our lawmakers on key issues related to golf course management,” said Randy Harris, director of marketing for Toro’s Commercial Business. “Connecting superintendents with members of Congress to provide perspective and education on real-life issues such as labor and immigration, water management, and the responsible use of pesticides and fertilizers, while promoting the value of golf as they determine new laws and regulations, will benefit the golf industry and courses across the country.”
The GAL award recognizes one ambassador per quarter, who has demonstrated critical outreach to, and connection with, their assigned member of Congress. Votes taken, bills sponsored, or speeches given by the member of Congress recognizing GCSAA’s priority issues may also be taken into consideration. The GCSAA Government Affairs Committee is responsible for judging nominees and evaluating the applications and essay, highlighting each nominee’s achievements.
Active Grassroots Ambassadors may apply for the award on a quarterly basis. The recognition package, sponsored by The Toro Company, includes an all-expenses-paid trip for four ambassadors annually to the National Golf Day event in Washington, DC. The annual fly-in will feature exciting opportunities for award recipients, including a community service project on the National Mall, Capitol Hill meetings with lawmakers to discuss priority issues for the golf industry, and other engaging events.
“We thank The Toro Company for supporting the GCSAA Grassroots Ambassador program by connecting our ambassadors with their assigned policymakers in our nation’s capital. Our ambassadors will not only get a chance to interact with their member of Congress at home, but also where they work in Washington,” said GCSAA Chief Executive Officer Rhett Evans.
The partnership between Toro and the GCSAA officially began on January 1, 2018. Toro will sponsor this GCSAA initiative for a minimum of three years, and the company officially announced its involvement at the 2018 Golf Industry Show, in San Antonio, Texas, on February 7, 2018.
